There are basically 3 types of filters:

Sand filters are the most common kind of swimming pool filters. These are sufficient for most swimming pools. Sand filters can remove particles that are as small as 20-25 microns.

Cartridge filters use a kind of cartridge paper as the filtering medium. They can filter away dirt particles as small as 8 microns. They are easy to maintain and are priced in between sand and Diatomaceous Earth filters.

Diatomaceous Earth filters (DE filters) are the most effective swimming pool filters. They clean the pool water thoroughly.

As you can see, each of these swimming pool filters has advantages and disadvantages. You need to choose the filter that is best suited to your needs by evaluating these advantages and disadvantages.
